General Election 2024 Astrology and More
My first election campaign was in October 1974, so I catch myself realising that this was some 50 years ago. I have been a candidate for Parliament five times and the European Parliament once, and there are also numerous council elections over that time. So, at 66, I find myself somewhat of a political veteran. I have known about astrology all of my life, but it's only in the last six or seven years that I have studied it in detail.
I was introduced to the formal learning of astrology by Steve Judd some six years ago. I have completed training with the Centre for Psychological Astrology at Certificate level and am halfway through my MISPA Diploma in Psychological Astrology. I have completed Chris Brennan's excellent Hellenistic course and his electional course, as well as the Horary course taught by him and Rob Bailey. I have been a Jungian therapist for over 30 years and have professional qualifications in Psychotherapy as well as numerous degrees in Social Anthropology, Classics, Philosophy, and English Literature.
My grandmother taught me tea leaf reading at 8 years of age, and I have been collecting Tarot cards for over 50 years. My son's godmother is the distinguished occultist Dolores Ashcroft Nowicki.
I have recently launched my astrology practice website with its blog and have decided to write about the coming UK General Election from the perspectives of mundane astrology and what we might learn about or speculate upon.
I am using whole signs and Hellenistic astrological principles here. The reason is that I am convinced after much reading that, as Hellenistic astrology is more predictive and collective and world-centred, it offers some fascinating political speculations. The works of both Vettius Valens and Firmicus Maternus are more suited for the General Election of July 2024 and the world of late capitalism. Psychological astrology offers many insights into the psyche of both Starmer and Sunak, and in the future, I will allude to what we may learn from them and psychological astrology.
I am not a New Ager, but rather more a Neo-Hegelian Neo-Pagan with existential tendencies. I am thinking of looking at some unusual aspects of this campaign. Initially, I will be examining the connection between the chart of polling day and two of the foundation charts of England and the UK.
The first chart I will be using is that of December 25th, 1066, at an assumed time of 12 noon for the Coronation of William the Conqueror. We know that it occurred in daylight during those hours of a December day. The chart is only really applicable to England and the English. The other chart is that of one minute past midnight on January 1, 1801. This is more useful, particularly for the general election of July 2024, although it excludes Wales, which has no symbol upon the Union Flag. I have tried to correct this by creating a birth chart for Wales, giving a birth time of 7.00 am on September 26, 1997, in Carmarthen. This was the time the final result came through in the Referendum of September 1997 and was the last result, swapping the result from No to Yes. You couldn't ask for a more precise date or time. I am arguing that prior to this point, there had not been, in effect, a united Wales, but it may have been closer to unity several times prior to the Norman Conquest, and some may argue that the Act of Union of 1536 under Henry VIII or Henry VII claiming to be the 'son of the prophecy' or in Welsh 'Mab Darogan' could also be considered.
I am also intrigued to look at Jeremy Corbyn and his chances of victory in Islington North and of a 'Portillo' moment of defeat for Jacob Rees-Mogg in North East Somerset. I have created a chart for both events and for Plaid Cymru and the three major political parties. Nick Campion's excellent book on World Horoscopes distinguishes the founding of the Labour Party in 1900 and the Parliamentary Labour Party of 1906. I did try to find a birth date for the Green Party, but all I could find was that it was in Coventry in 1972/73. So, I would appreciate it if anyone could help. I was Leader of the Welsh Green Party from 2001 till 2005 but joined Labour at the election of Jeremy Corbyn in 2016 and left it recently. Steve Judd once commented to me that there wasn't a conservative aspect or conjunction in my chart. I am quite aware of most of my prejudices and projections, so please forgive me for those that have slipped through. My ascendant is Virgo, my MC in Gemini, and my IC in Sagittarius where you can find the Moon and have Venus in Pisces as my descendant. Uranus is in the 12th house, and Pluto starts from my first house with powerful opposition from Venus. Finally, Mars is in Aquarius in the sixth. So, I hope you understood clearly what he meant.
Anyway, please look at the charts I will comment on over the next four weeks. Looking forward to your comments and observations. You can find my blog and website at www.wilfredhazelwood.com. Councillor Martyn Shrewsbury 07592330467 [email protected].
