Old Halloween, Rememberance and Gaza
I have begun to notice on tweets, in comments and in conversations the uncomfortable recognition, realisation and repulsion that people are beginning to feel about wearing a Red Poppy and observing Rememberance aa Gaza faces genocide and siege.
And as I pondered the issue I wondered how many might find these thoughts within but keep them quiet because of pressure to comply and confirm.
In parts of Scotland and amongst certain traditions November 11th is known as Old Halloween. This is because in 1752 we changed from the Julian Calender to the Gregorian one. Effectively this meant removing some 12 days from the month of September 1752. This is why November 11th is known as Old Halloween and it is the strangest Synchronicity that this is the day that World War 1 ended effectively on Old Halloween.Eleven days were removed from the Calender to bring England into line with the rest of Europe. As many of you know I have a long interest in folklore, legends and myth I have always found the Red Poppy repulsive it was designed by the wife of 'Butcher' Haig the general who condemned many, many thousands of men to death in the horrors of Trench warfare through brutal military decisions and an approach that makes my heart run cold. I have never worn a red poppy and never will. This year as we honour the millions who died in World War 2 fighting Fascism and opposing genocide I cannot be silent as Gaza is blown to pieces in a new genocide, unleashed by an apartheid state based on settler colonialism. I am of Jewish origins from Spain and the Mediterranean area in particular but I cannot accept the politicians at War Memorials turning their back on the need for a humanitarian ceasefire. .
World War 2 was about freeing people from genocide. And as both Sunak and Starmer stand at the Cenotaph on Old Halloween I must ask what their hearts and souls feel?
80% of people want ceasefire, within Israel itself the many millions who oppose ths Gaza siege are now be threatened by the risk of a government degree that live weapons and bullets can be used. Fascism is returning, the authoritarian state is returning, total war is rising and there is vast disjunctbetween miming Remdmberance when the death of millions for freedom, liberty and equality sees genocide return in 2023. As the Full Moon shines over Gaza and the IDF move under that moonlight and the bombs rain down upon the innocent we all know that deep in our hearts that rememberance, so partial, is not enough. The arms dealers are creatures who walk with the leaders of the West let us not let down the millions who died in the armed services whilst Gaza is under siege...the military industrial complex must be demolished we are about to lose more than eleven days and as protest builds across rhe world the resistance of millions is a better rememberance than any other. This war must really be the last war....
Halloween is the festival of the cycle of life . We honour the ancient and the recent dead. There is a better way than the masque of hypocrisy we will see upon the BBC in about two weeks. Look at the Synchronicity and sense give peace a chance we need a ceasefire now....Old Halloween will not forgive us lightly.
And here at the Eclipse the Full Moon shines down upon as the deaths rise ...this is one of the longest nights we add an hour to our sleep may our dreams be hopeful and our hearts peaceful..
